Going out on a blind date can be one of the scariest and most uncomfortable times in a person’s life. On one hand, you want to find that special someone. But, on the other hand, your blind date might not be the right match making for you. In fact, if the guy or girl that you have been paired up with rejects you, it can sting your heart for a long time to come.

You yourself might be a matchmaker at heart. If you find yourself constantly trying to get two single people together, then you’re probably an associate of Cupid! Sometimes, of course, a blind date can end up happily at the altar, while other times it can be a tragedy. When you set up a blind date between two people you know, you run the risk of one or both of them getting angry and hurt at you. Or, maybe they’ll be thanking you for your help in finding that special someone!

So, how do you know when to set two single people up on a blind date, and when not to? While there are no steadfast rules for this social situation, there are some common sense rules that you can use.

Rule 1

If you know the guy and girl fairly well, then you should know some of their likes and dislikes. If you know that couple you want to match up has at least two things in common, then go ahead and try to set up a blind date. Examples of things in common include sports, hobbies, pets, and religion.

Don’t get overzealous in your matchmaking! While it probably makes you feel good to bring two single people together, remember that this is all about them, not you! If either the guy or the single girls strongly resists going on a blind date, then respect their decision and let them be. If you don’t, then you can risk making an enemy!

You may think that you can replace their thoughts of a girlfriend, boyfriend, or ex-wife with a new relationship. But, if they’re not ready to move on, if their heart still feels the sting, then it’s not the time to set them up on a blind date.
